Assessing Eligibility for Mortgage Modification Negotiation

When a financial problem makes it difficult to pay your mortgage, a modification could be a good solution. However, not all are eligible for this. How do you know whether you may get this option? The best way to get a clear answer in this regard is to consult a real estate attorney specializing in this field.

In most cases, the following circumstances affect your eligibility for a loan modification.

Are you in financial difficulty? Only if your hardship letter establishes that your present financial condition makes it difficult for you to pay the mortgage, your lender may consider this. It must be concise and clear about this.

Do you have the resources to repay if modification happens? A lender, or lending institute, would only consider a modification if you can prove that you have the means to repay the debt if there is a change to the terms.

Are you too rich or too poor? Your Real Estate Attorney Chicago would know that the right ratio of debt to income is an essential to get a mortgage modification. If you have a high income, they may not consider it. On the other hand, if you had no means of paying off, they may not consider it either.
